ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH OPERATION

(a) Apply the parking brake.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is in N or P, but does not start in any other position.

(d) Check that the back-up light illuminates and the reverse warning buzzer sounds only when the shift lever is in R, but does not function in any other position.

If a malfunction or failure is found, check the park/neutral position switch for continuity.
